NATO prepares Iran attack?

From the Jerusalem Post, Jan. 1:

The United States government reportedly began coordinating with NATO its plans for a possible military attack against Iran.

The German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel collected various reports from the German media indicating that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are examining the prospects of such a strike.

According to the report, CIA Director Porter Goss, in his last visit to Turkey on December 12, requested Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to provide military bases to the United States in 2006 from where they would be able to launch an assault.

The German news agency DDP also noted that countries neighboring Iran, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and Pakistan were also updated regarding the supposed plan. American sources sent to those countries apparently mentioned an aerial attack as a possibility, but did not provide a time frame for the operation.

Although Der Spiegel could not say that these plans were concrete, they did note that according to a January 2005 New Yorker report American forces had entered Iran in 2005 in order to mark possible targets for an aerial assault.

Of course, there have been false alarms before.

See our last post on Iran.

  1. False Alarm
What nonsense. An attack on Iran is just not an option, despite all the sensational leaks. A war between Iran and Israel would devastate both countries, even if Iran has no nuclear weapons. The Israelis are not suicidal. The use of nuclear weapons by Israel would mean the end of Israel in the long run. It would inflame the muslim world to a degree that is hard to even imagine.

The US does have an irrational government, but even we know that if Iran were to attack our forces in Iraq, we would be at a serious disadvantage. Again, the use of nuclear weapons against Iran would cause permanent foreign policy problems for America.

Iran may be ten years away from developing a bomb, which is what a CIA report concluded some months ago. Certainly the UN inspectors have found nothing to justify a military strike.

Ahmadinejad’s wild rhetoric is calculated to show that the West is incapable of doing anything at all to Iran. Iran is seemingly invincible. Iran does not need the US and its economy will boom as it sells its oil and gas to the East.

I think all the panicked news reporting is playing into Iran’s hands, and ironically it appears to be coming from the right. Pay no attention to the news hacks, they will lose the war of words in the long run because war with Iran just isn’t in anyone’s interest, and Iran well knows this.

    1. Iran Attack
I believe we will eventually be at war with Iran. Because of the 2 wars were fighting now the one against Iran will be with Europe and Israel and anyone else wanting to help out. Iran is only a matter of time, there was a plan long before Iraq to enter Iran….but Iraq is the stepping stone to take Iran down. Watch the signs there already there, and more will come, a war with Iran is inevitable it is the major tipping point for the big big war.
