Carter disses Dershowitz

From CNN’s Larry King Live, Nov. 28:

Larry King: Back to Mr. [Alan] Dershowitz on your book. He deals with the tone of your book. He says “it’s obvious that Carter doesn’t like Israel or Israelis. He lectured Golda Meir on Israel’s secular nature, he admits he didn’t like Menachem Begin. He has little good to say about any Israelis except those few who agree with him. He apparently got along swimmingly with secular Syrian mass murderer Hafiz al-Assad. He and his wife Rosalynn had a fine time fine with equally secular Yasser Arafat, a man with the blood of hundreds of Americans and Israelis on his hands.”

How would you respond?

Jimmy Carter: That’s ridiculous. You know, I think it’s a waste of my time and yours to quote Professor Dershowitz. He’s so obviously biased, Larry, and it’s not worth my time to waste it on commenting on him.

  1. Amazon censoring book critical of Dershowitz?
    Finkelstein comments:

Amazon has removed Beyond Chutzpah from its web site

I have received many emails wondering why Amazon no longer lists my book Beyond Chutzpah: On the misuse of anti-Semitism and the abuse of history (University of California Press: 2005). I do not have a ready answer. Experts I’ve consulted tell me it’s unlikely to be a random program glitch. At this point the more sinister explanations seem also to be the more plausible ones.

Dershowitz has campaigned against the book, including legal action against UCal Press to prevent its publication.
