Sea ice in Canada‘s Arctic is melting faster than previously expected, the lead investigator in Ottawa’s largest climate-change study yet said Feb. 5—raising a worst-case scenario of an ice-free Arctic by 2013. University of Manitoba professor David Barber, leader of the Circumpolar Flaw Lead System Study, said “It’s happening much faster than our most pessimistic models suggested.”
Barber and more than 300 scientists from around the world spent last winter on the Canadian Coast Guard research ship Amundsen in the Arctic—the first research vessel to remain mobile in open water during the winter season. Canada’s federal government provided $156 million for the study. Barber said that before the expedition, it was assumed the Arctic would be ice-free in the winter by 2100. “We expect it will happen much faster than that… somewhere between 2013 and 2030 are our estimates right now.” (Canwest, Feb. 5)

Lawmaker: Climate Change Just Ruse to Control Population
Rep. Mike Noel, the Legislature’s chief climate-change skeptic, declared Thursday that global warming is a conspiracy to control world population.
The House Natural Resources Committee then approved a resolution that expresses the Utah Legislature’s belief that “climate alarmists’ carbon dioxide-related global warming hypothesis is unable to account for the current downturn in global temperatures.”
The resolution, sent to the House on a 10-1 vote, would urge the Environmental Protection Agency to drop plans to regulate the pollution blamed for climate change “until a full and independent investigation of the climate data conspiracy and global warming science can be substantiated.”
“We’re at the breaking point,” said Rep. Kerry Gibson, the resolution’s sponsor, who warned that the supply of safe and affordable food is already threatened by over-regulation.
Eleven Brigham Young University scientists defended climate science in a point-by-point rebuttal to parts of the resolution and urged the panel in an e-mail to reject the measure.

“…who warned that the supply of safe and affordable food is already threatened by over-regulation.”
Good thinking there, Kerry. There are toxins and pathogens in our food, therefore we need….less regulation. How did we ever miss it?
Population Control
Mike Noel must have a hidden agenda. While its true we need to eventually reduce our number so live sustainably it is ridiculous to say that the many, many studies that have been completed over the last 30+ years were falsified by a desire control population. There’s about as much evidence for it as there is for 9-11 being an “inside” job.
All of our well respected scientific institutions have been telling us that we are warming the planet and that the consequences are not good. For the rational, that should be sufficient. Read what they have to say and review the studies that are completed almost daily.
