A scene from Yara Arts Group's "Hitting Bedrock," on the war in eastern Ukraine, performed at La Mama theater in Lower Manhattan. East Village Ukrainians take pride in the neighborhood's role in keeping their culture alive through the worst years of Soviet oppression. With the 2014 Maidan Revolution, they organized to support the protesters. They are now mobilizing to oppose Russian imperial designs on their homeland—while many "leftists" in the US join Donald Trump in blocking with Vladimir Putin. Bill Weinberg reports for The Villager.
